The 2012 Festival will be bigger and better than ever with more entries expected than ever before.
Thanks to our local Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank there is $2500 in prize money plus trophies including a $1000 prize award for the most outstanding play. With their generous sponsorship we have enticed some of Melbourne’s leading theatre companies to leave the big smoke and provide locals with a highly entertaining mix of short plays.
Last year’s big winners, Pop Culture Theatre and Nuworks (Male Leading Actor, Support Actor, Youth Performance and the Design Award), are returning to defend their titles while Hartwell Players (2010 winner Fur Better or Worse), Beaumaris Theatre (2009 winner An Englishman Abroad) and 1812 (2008 winner The Dock Brief) are all back to show off their talents and trying to win some of the big prize money on offer so it looks like being another really enjoyable festival.
Despite the competitive element, the Foster Festival is always a very friendly and social occasion with audience members and theatre companies being given the choice of concert style seating or sitting at tables with their own drinks and nibbles.
To allow time for more socialising on Saturday evening, and to ensure that everyone is able to get their meal on time, we have arranged in-house catering at the Foster Arts Centre. The Prom Coast Aged Care catering corps will be swinging into action raising money for their building fund while providing a delicious meal for performers and audience members. The two course dinner with main course and sweets includes a vegetarian option and will cost you $25.

A festival schedule will be published via www.famda.org.au to make it easier to choose to see the work of a particular drama company, a favourite playwright or theatre genre.
A festival pass costs $20 and allows patrons to see every play in the festival. You don’t have to come to the entire festival. People are free to come and go with a session pass available at just $8 on Saturday or $10 for a day of plays on Sunday.
